While DC is only just getting into the shared universe movie game with upcoming films like Batman Vs Superman: Dawn of Justice, Suicide Squad, and a league’s worth of others in pre-production, they’re already old hands when it comes to direct-to-home video animated films in a similar vein. As far back as 1993’s Batman: Mask of the Phantasm, or as I like to call it the BEST BATMAN MOVIE EVER, DC has been putting out decent-to-excellent animated features, with much of their recent output in a shared universe model patterned after their current comics universe.
Next up on the horizon for the DC Animated Universe is Justice League vs. Teen Titans, a film whose title should tell you everything you need to know: The Justice League, the premiere super-team of the DC Universe, finds themselves squaring off against the Teen Titans, a group composed mostly of teenage heroes. Originally made up of the teenage sidekicks of DC heroes, the Teen Titans have since filled up with a roster including heroes like the shapeshifting Beast Boy, alien Starfire, mystic Raven and most recently the new Blue Beetle (I still miss Ted Kord, and I always will). The thirty second trailer is light on story, teasing DC baddie Trigon as a possible main baddie.
What we do know for sure is that the film contains a ton of familiar voices for fans of the DC Animated Universe, including Jerry O’Connell as Superman, Jason O’Mara as Batman and Rosario Dawson as Wonder Woman, including new faces like Taissa Farmiga as Raven and voice-acting mainstays Kari Whalgren and Nolan North as Starfire and Superboy respectively. Jon Bernthal, crossing the aisle from his upcoming turn as Marvel’s Punisher in Daredevil season 2, will be voicing Trigon.
