If there wasn’t enough new shows to go around, here’s one more to add to your list to check out. Amazon has dropped the first trailer for its half-hour coming-of-age dramedy Red Oaks, created by Gregory Jacobs (Magic Mike XXL, The Knick) and Joe Gangemi (Eliza Graves). Set in suburban New Jersey in 1985, the comedy executive produced by Steven Soderbergh and David Gordon Green has been described as The Graduate meets Caddyshack and stars Craig Roberts as David, a college student uncertain about his future. He picks up a summer job at a country club, where he tries to figure out who he is and what he wants to be in this world. The pilot for Red Oaks debuted on Amazon over a year ago, and our assistant TV Editor Deepayan Sengupta noted that, while the show has promise one of the major negative aspects of the pilot, is its treatment of women. Four female characters are introduced in the pilot, none of whom get fleshed out to the degree that other members of the supporting cast do. Hopefully, this problem will be resolved sooner than later. In the meantime check out the trailer below and read Deepayan’s review here.
All 10 episodes of Red Oaks hit Amazon Prime October 9.
