Another year, another Woody Allen movie about a nebbish intellectual type going through an existential crisis. Nothing wrong with that, it’s just a question of, is this Good Woody or Bad?
His latest, Irrational Man, stars Joaquin Phoenix as a somewhat unusual Allen surrogate, this time playing a psychology professor stuck with his own questions of the meaning of life. Emma Stone (who showed up in Allen’s last, Magic in the Moonlight) plays Phoenix’s promising student, and Parker Posey (who proved she can steal the show with one of Allen’s quasi-proteges, Louis C.K.) stars as his love interest.
