Zack Snyder Confirmed to Direct Superman
It has been confirmed by Deadline, who spoke with Zack Snyder (300, Watchmen, Dawn of the Dead), that he is now taking control of the director seat and will be starting Superman, for Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures, when he finishes with Sucker Punch.
“‘I’ve been a big fan of the character for a long time, he’s definitely the king of all superheroes, he’s the one,” Snyder told Deadline. “It’s early yet, but I can tell you that what David and Chris have done with the story so far definitely has given me a great insight into a way to make him feel modern. I’ve always felt he was kind of awesome. I’ll finish Sucker Punch and get right at it.'”
This is pretty exciting news. Snyder was on slot with four other potential directors, including a recent entry of Daren Aronofsky. Snyder is probably the most reasonable one with his filmography and it will be interesting to see how much influence Chris Nolan has on Snyder’s vision. Will we see a very dark, gritty slow motion Superman film? If Superman is indeed faster than a speeding bullet, you can guarantee that Snyder’s slo-mo habits will be in full effect.
Christopher Nolan (The Dark Knight, Inception) will be taking the producer role with David Goyer (Blade, Batman Begins, The Dark Knight) will be writing the screenplay. This film will most likely be shooting for a 2012 release date as the contract within Warner Bros. will be up by 2013.
