Recently I had the chance to interview John Landis after his North American premiere of Burke And Hare which screened at the Fantasia Film Festival. During the interivew (part of which you can hear on episode 284 of the Sound On Sight podcast), I mentioned to Mr. Landis that although he was looked upon as a master of horror, he really was a director of comedies. Looking back on his career most people remember American Werewolf In London, but the majority of his work is anything but horror. Well now with the 30th anniversary release of An American Werewolf in London coming up, Landis says that he’s returning to horror movies. Recently promoting Burke And Hare, he responded to Bloody Disgusting‘s question about returning to the genre with a few details:
“You know what? Actually, I’m writing one with Alexandre Gavras (son of director Costa-Gavras) and we’re shooting it within the next two years in Paris – Yeah, a little monster movie. It has no title (yet)… You’re the first people to know about it. It’s interesting…my cast has to be bilingual because it’s being shot in French and English. We know who’s gonna star in it, but this is all off the radar right now (so I can’t tell you who they are).”
The news is great. I just wish when I asked Landis what his next project was, he would have skipped over the news of his upcoming documentary and shared this bit with me instead. I was a big fan of Burke And Hare (read my review) despite some negative press and personally I can’t wait to see what the director does next.
