The rise of the internet has opened up another avenue for creative forces to distribute their output and gain fans, and comedy has been no exception. One of the groups that has successfully taken advantage of the new medium is the comedy troupe 5secondfilms. Built on the concept of making and releasing a comedic short that’s 5 seconds or less every weekday, the group has found themselves working with luminaries such as Andrew WK, Weird Al Yankovic, Doug Benson, and Patton Oswalt, while finding wider success themselves, with troupe member Jon Worley now a writer for the critically acclaimed FX show Justified. While the group has, however, made some longer films, they have never moved past the short film format. With their next effort, however, the troupe is intent on breaking into the feature film world, expanding the popular mock trailer for Dude Bro Party Massacre 3 into a full length film. The group has turned to Kickstarter to amass the funding necessary for the production of the feature, with rewards that include exclusive posters of the fictional films Dude Bro Party Massacre 1 and 2, a VHS copy of the film (which is being scripted as a homage to 80s slasher films), and a spot on the film and a future 5secondfilms creation. With the consistently high level of talent they have displayed in their previous endeavours, as well as their desire to set a record for most onscreen kills in a slasher film proving that this feature is unlikely to be of a lower calibre than their regular output, what they manage to make is an exciting prospect.
