Platinum Dunes to Relaunch Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

Michael Bay’s production company, Platinum Dunes, has been brought on by Nickelodeon and Paramount Pictures to reboot the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Franchise. Deadline reports that producers Brad Fuller and Andrew Form will tag along with Galen Walker and Scott Mednick and meet with writers within the next few weeks to establish pre-production ideas. With Dunes’ recent takes on horror remakes (Friday the 13th, A Nightmare on Elmstreet, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre) and Bay’s Transformer franchise, will there be any good to come from this? They do modernize the stories well to a certain degree, but lack in story or character development. There is also a flashy element to their filming that makes things look too pretty in some aspects like a ad campaign. But add some Michael Bay signature explosions and you’ll have yourself a real film on your hands……

I definitely don’t want to see a TMNT with a story focusing on humans (Casey Jones and April O’Neil) and then have the turtles as a side character like the Transformers are. It’s nice to see Platinum Dunes go out of their element of horror remakes, but lets hope they can do it well and not spiral into a Transformers/Horror remake disaster leaving fans depressed, especially after that unimpressive TMNT animated movie.
