Is CGI the new nude?

The news that Jessica Alba was not actually naked in the shower scene in Robert Rodriguez’s Machete was met with a lot of disappointed and some debate. Apparently Alba filmed the scene wearing white underwear that was later removed with CGI. The debate revolves around what CGI nudity means for the future of film.

/Film has a great discussion on the issue, highlighting the importance of nudity in film. For me, there’s nothing inherently bad about it, I only question the affect that it would have on my view of the character, and, potentially, the affect it could have on the actor’s performance.

What do you think about it? It’s definitely a topic that invites discussion.
