Vampires? So 2010, Werewolves? Being tackled as we speak. So what exactly is trending in the studios’ minds right now? Apparently there can never be enough Snow White! In recent weeks, there have been numerous reports of several big stars in ongoing negotiations for two separate Snow White films. Now it has been confirmed by Entertainment Weekly via a Relativity Media statement that one such star, Julia Roberts, is to take part in Relativity’s The Brothers Grimm: Snow White as the Evil Queen. EW has CEO and producer Ryan Kavanaugh saying that ”Julia was our first and only choice to play the Queen. She is an icon, and we know that she will make this role her own in a way that no one else could.” And Kavanaugh kids not as it seems the studio has had their eye on Roberts since December 2010, when Deadline reported that both Roberts and Charlize Theron were being courted for dueling Snow White films. The Brett Ratner (X-Men: The Last Stand) produced The Brothers Grimm: Snow White is expected to begin production in April.
As for Julia’s rival? There has been chatter that Charlize Theron has been in negotiations for a while as well for Universal Pictures’ Snow White and the Huntsman. Theron is up for the Evil Queen in this project also and Viggo Mortensen is in talks to join as the titled Huntsman. Who could be snatching up the plum role of the damsel in distress? A frontrunner has emerged, in the form of presently one of the most popular actresses who might be trading in vampires for dwarves: Kristen Stewart. The production is said to be hotly pursuing Stewart, hoping to snag her as soon as The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn finishes shooting. Apparently with or without Stewart, the story will be how the Huntsman will serve as a protector and mentor to Snow White. We’ll have to wait until possibly 2012 to see which Evil Queen will reign supreme at the box office. Will you be in line for the Snow White headlined by Julia Roberts? Or is a villainous Charlize Theron more tempting?
