Montreal’s Cineclub film society is holding a special screening of the classic silent film, The Hunchback of Notre Dame (1923) on October 3rd & 4th at 7:30pm. One of the most enduring adaptations of the popular novel by Victor Hugo, the film stars the incomparable Lon Chaney in the role of Quasimodo. The event is far more than just a screening though, and will be accompanied by live music and during the intermission the audience will be delighted by a live performance from a dancer of Cirquantique, who will perform a dance befitting of a real-life Esmeralda.
The event will also take place at a beautiful Gothic church located in the heart of Westmount, just outside of the Park. The film will be shown as it was originally intended, at 18 frames per second in celluloid. There will be snacks and home-made refreshments available. The event is part of a fundraising campaign for the Montreal film society to fund their year round screenings of classic films. Hope to see you there!
