MORNING LIGHTS and FINGERPRINTS are the two new singles released on Valentine’s Day to promote the debut album ‘Somersaults’ for UK Cambridge / London based band GHOSTLIGHT. Both songs were written by Al White and arranged by the band and both videos were produced independently by the band and were directed by Al White.
‘Morning Lights’ was shot over the course of 4 incredibly busy and cold days all over London from house boats to busy public streets, restaurants, the London aquarium, independent music shops and packed live venues on an actual gig night. It was shot, directed and edited by Al White and was filmed using the Sony EX3 prosumer camera with a Letus Ultimate DOF Adapter and old pre-ai Nikon lenses. The concept for the video was to try to make something that was more akin to a short romantic independent film and harked back to the more filmic music videos of the 90’s.
‘Fingerprints’ was shot in one day in a gigantic warehouse in far East London. It was done in 3 takes only and then edited between 2 of them but 90% of the video is from one single take. The idea for the video was partly just to allow the band to have some fun, but was also to be viewed as a metaphorical commentary on modern digital entertainment (and in particular – youtube) – where the viewer is forced to watch all the action on the screens in front of them, whilst the reality is happening just off screen.
Both songs were released together as a double a-side on Valentine’s Day to show the flipsides of love and romance – one the optimistic, heady rush of a burgeoning relationship. The other – the frustrating, bitter depression of an unrequited love.
The album was launched last monday 7th March and can be bought on iTunes and other digital and online stores, or ordered physically from the bands official site.
