Fantasia’s fave DJ xl5 presents his Christmas Zappin’ Party

A Festive and Irreverent Fundraiser Event for this Holiday Season.

Montreal, December 10th, 2010 – Forget about gravy, gift-wrappings, political scandals, general dissatisfaction and modern life. This is DJ XL5’s Christmas gift to you, Christmas Zappin’ Party – with an exclusive video participation from MC Gilles – on December 26th, at the majestic Théâtre Plaza.

Trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hezINO-wA7Q

DJ XL5 presents a festive program of films excerpts, trailers, music videos, commercials, short features and TV samples edited in the manner of zapping from one TV channel to another, making you forget your troubles by submerging you in a universe where good sense and logic don’t necessarily apply. An international overdose of twisted Season’s greetings. From DJ XL5’s original, spider-filled vaults of genuinely surreal VHS and forgotten cultural junk comes a joyfully irreverent and gently blasphemous Zappin’ Party. The final product is a kind of “culture jamming” or “media barrage,” a rapid-fire satire of modern culture, television zapping as a source of evening entertainment and the strange world we live in.

With DJ XL5′s Christmas Zappin Party, one can expect psycho Santas, neurotic Santas, Ill-treated Santas, Facist Santas, Nazi elves, angry snowmen, and Santas coming from Mexico, Asia, Europe and North America. DL XL5 will notably pay a special tribute to Bob Clark as he offered us two of the best season features ever, Black Christmas and A Christmas Story and create a mixture of old favourites, strange cultural UFOs and retro TV madness.

Excerpts from more than 40 features! You’ll experience the The Star Wars Holiday Special, He-Man and She-Ra: A Christmas Special, Ultraman Christmas episodes and some twisted short features such as Bill Plympton’s Santa, The Facist Years and Jason Eisener’s Treevenge.

DJ XL5′s Christmas Zappin Party will also feature a special exclusive presentation from MC Gilles who’ll present to our public his worst and weirdest Christmas record collection. Christmas will never be the same…

This Christmas, be ready to give and receive!

DJ XL5 and MC Gilles are putting this event together as a fundraiser and a food-bank collection event for the homeless and the less fortunate. All profits will be donated to DANS LA RUE and MOISSON MONTRÉAL. This event wants to underline the devotion, profound respect and generosity of these two charity organizations.

Founded in 1988, DANS LA RUE is a community organization that works with street kids and high-risk youth in Montreal. Based on the philosophy of “help without judgment” of its founder, Father Emmett “Pops” Johns, the organization provides food, accommodation and friendship to homeless kids, as well as resources and services to help them get off the street. The Dans la rue team includes more than 65 employees and 135 dynamic volunteers who all work toward the goal of giving young people the means to take control of their lives.

MOISSON MONTRÉAL is supported by a network of nearly 150 agri-food suppliers that aims at collecting perishable and non-perishable foodstuffs. The foodstuffs collected are mainly obtained from the food product surplus of suppliers, wholesalers, manufacturers, and farmers. Events and collection drives organized by companies also contribute to our supply. Besides, Moisson Montréal is Canada’s largest food bank in terms of collecting and distributing foodstuffs. Moisson Montréal must assure the effective and responsible administration of its income. The objective always remains the same: to make the most out of less! With $1, Moisson Montréal recovers and freely redistributes $15.40 in foodstuffs. Your donations become real investments in our fight against hunger.

DJ XL5 is a Montreal-based multimedia artist and collagist whose short-film programs and special thematic events have traveled across Canada to film festivals, repertory cinemas and other events. First gaining popularity as a staple of the Fantasia International Film Festival, DJ XL5′s last thematic event, DJ XL5’s Bollywood Zappin’ Party, played to a sold-out crowd in a 750-seat theatre. He was recently commissioned to create a new thematic event for the Regard sur le court au Saguenay Film Festival. He is currently working on a project tentatively titled Psychotronic Zappin’ Party and another one called Mexican Zappin’ Party.
