It seems like there have been almost as many Batman composers as their have been actors, if not more. For every new incarnation of the Caped Crusader, some new composer has to step up and make sure he has the musical accompaniment he deserves (and the one he needs blah blah predictable joke). Of course, everyone thinks of Danny Elfman first, but don’t forget about the contributions that composers like Shirley Walker and Hans Zimmer have made. Batman -needs- to have a good soundtrack behind him, and when it comes to scoring the Dark Knight in Batman Vs Superman: Dawn of Justice, Snyder and co have turned to Junkie XL himself Tom Holkenborg, making him this year’s busiest superhero composer, what with him scoring Deadpool as well.
And thanks to Soundcloud, you can listen to Holkenborg’s contribution to the legacy of bat-soundtracks below. Holkenborg seems to have taken a cue from Batman composers of old by putting a lot of focus on booming brass, but mixing it in with his now signature pounding drums. It makes for an interesting combo, and it isn’t hard to picture it alongside Snyder’s visuals at all.
