‘My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2’ gets bigger

Opa! Universal Pictures is joining Gold Circle, HBO, and Playtone in the production and distribution of the sequel of the popular 2002 film. Earlier in May, HBO and Playtone, the production company of Rita Wilson and Tom Hanks, announced that they would create a sequel. Kirk Jones (Nanny McPhee and What to Expect When You’re Expecting) is set to direct. Nia Vardalos, who starred in and wrote the original, has already written the script.

The romantic comedy My Big Fat Greek Wedding follows Vardalos and her large, Greek family as she falls and love, and eventually marries, a W.A.S.P. The film was nominated for an Academy Award, and is considered the highest-grossing romantic-comedy of all time.

Following My Big Fat Greek Wedding, Nia Vardalos and John Corbett return as a family secret and an even larger wedding bring the Portokalos family together. No word yet if Windex will sponsor.
