Rian Johnson, the director behind Brick and Looper, will direct Star Wars Episode VIII and IX, as Deadline reported Friday from a source at Lucasfilm.
Johnson would take over from J.J. Abrams, currently working on Episode VII.
This also follows after announcements that Josh Trank (Chronicle) and Gareth Edwards (Godzilla) would be helming Star Wars spinoff films.
Johnson is another safe name for Disney and Lucasfilm to add to their list, as he’s still a tried-and-true director behind a studio sci-fi film but one who still has something to prove with a major tentpole project like Star Wars.
What do you think of the choice? Who would you have preferred to see take up these sequels?
