Sword in the Stone

Stop me if you’ve heard this before in the past three months: live-action remake of an animated Disney movie.

Following other films such as Dumbo, Pinocchio, Mulan, and the “Night on Bald Mountain” scene from Fantasia, the House of Mouse is set to bring Sword in the Stone to reality with a live-action remake of the 1963 animated feature, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The original film followed a young King Arthur as he was mentored by Merlin. The remake is set to be written by Brian Cogman, who works as a producer and writer on Game of Thrones.

This follows a string of live-action remakes that Disney has scheduled for the foreseeable future after the two more recent ones, Maleficent and Cinderella, have been box office winners. It also comes close to a live-action King Arthur movie from director Guy Ritchie that he is planning to make into a possible franchise.

There is no date set for Sword in the Stone, but Disney has The Jungle Book, directed by Jon Favreau, and Beauty and the Beast, starring Emma Watson and Ian McKellen, coming out soon.
