Today Mojang and Telltale unleashed the startling news that the next Telltale series would be…a story-based take on Minecraft? It might sound like an April Fool’s Day prank, but according to both companies it’s 100% true.

Details are incredibly sparse but the series has been confirmed to premiere in 2015, although there’s no word on whether all of the planned episodes will arrive during the same calendar year.

In any case, 2015 is looking to be a very busy year for Telltale. With the remaining episodes of both of it’s currently ongoing series, Game of Thrones and Tales from the Borderlands, each set to finish their runs in the next twelve months, fans of the developer will rarely have to look far for the company’s latest release.

As speculation begins to run rampant, it seems like a given that the game will contain some silly humor and a lighter tone, particularly given the setting and animation style of Minecraft, but what else we can expect from this new title remains to be seen. The only thing we can say for sure is that a collaboration between one of the most respected developers in the business and the makers of the 3rd best-selling game of all time is pretty much a license to print money. Let’s hope the quality continues to live up to both company’s established pedigrees.
