Dan Aykroyd Confirms “Ghostbusters 3” Casting Rumors, Sends Fanboys into Frenzy

Ghostbusters 3, coming to theaters, one of these days

Bloody Disgusting has heard from a reader that producer, writer and star of the Ghostbusters franchise, Dan Aykroyd, confirmed some casting rumors for the 3rd installment which have swirled since the announcement of the project. This confirmation came while he was in town at WGN Radio Chicago promoting his vodka line.

Aykroyd goes on to reveal in the interview that original cast members Sigourney Weaver and Bill Murray have signed on and quoting Bloody Disgusting’s supposed Dan Aykroyd scoop “they are casting and open to finding some fresh faces, adding that both Bill Hader [SNL] and Anna Faris [Scary Movie, The House Bunny] have been mentioned as “strong possibilities”, although it’s still too early to call.”. Another name bandied about is Eliza Dushku, most recently known for her short-lived series Dollhouse.

Much like the last installment of Indiana Jones, it will be more than 20 years after the last Ghostbusters. Some are apprehensive already that even with a new sequel, it may not live up to the hype of the franchise. Only time will tell when the finished product is polished off and released. Columbia Pictures hopes to have a start date of May 2011. See all you Stay Puft marshmallow lovers at the theaters in 2012 then!
