Comedic singer Rachel Bloom has been a familiar face on the internet for a number of years, garnering a reputation for unexpectedly oddball songs that work in both a comedic and musical context. Fans of Bloom were glad to learn that she’d gotten a television show deal with Showtime, an excitement that was first crushed by the news that Showtime had formally passed on the series, then raised again with the announcement that The CW had expressed interest, and then given it a series order.
Moving from a half-hour format to an hour-long series, the show is titled Crazy Ex-Girlfriend and stars Bloom in the lead role. Bloom co-created the series with The Devil Wears Prada and Morning Glory screenwriter Aline Brosh McKenna, who is returning to tv for the first time since 1995. With the series set to make its debut later tonight, one of the songs from the show, which is a musical comedy, can be heard and seen below. The series premiere of Crazy Ex-Girlfriend will be on The CW at 8 pm ET.
