R.I.P. Michael ‘Llakor’ Ryan

I am devastated to hear about the loss of our beloved friend Michael Ryan, cohost of the Mousterpiece Cinema podcast and one of our most valuable, not to mention, most talented contributors. Mike Ryan, known in many circles (digitally and IRL) as Llakor, was the most pleasant cinephile you could ever spend time with. His enthusiasm and love for the arts is unmatched here at Sound On Sight. He could put a positive spin on just about any movie or television show despite its flaws and as the founder of the Young Cuts Film Festival, he was one of the great champions of independent filmmaking here in Montreal. His personal passion for cinema was boundless, and I am deeply saddened by this news.

My condolences go out to his friends and family and anyone who was touched by his love of all things geek. I’ve known Mike for only a few years now but he quickly became a great friend. He was someone who I was able to talk to for hours on end, about film, TV, comics and wrestling. Tonight we had plans to go to the movies and I was looking forward to our never ending conversation / debate over the film we planned to watch. Sadly this will not happen as our friendship was cut short.

Michael was taken away from us all, far too early.

R.I.P. Michael Ryan. You will be missed.

This is tough news. It would be disingenuous to say that I knew him very well, but from what i knew of him in my book he was an all around good guy. h
His enthusiasm for for movies, large and small, was infectious. Rest in peace, Mike.

It would be a lie to say that I knew Mike all that well, but as a small tribute, I’ve eliminated the word “enthusiast” from my Twitter bio. It’s too small a tribute, but it’s the only one I could come up with on a whim. He owned that term and I have no business branding myself with it.
