Dave Grohl confirms ‘Sonic Highways’ Season 2

While Dave Letterman signed off from his show with a Foo Fighters’ song, frontman Dave Grohl is using their own music to keep his own series going, Sonic Highways.

Sonic Highways was named for an eight-part documentary miniseries that aired on HBO in 2014, in which Grohl and company visited cities across America and interviewed famous musicians from the region to get a grasp of the musical history that defined the sound from that region. The format of the show is such that Grohl could continue and explore rock history across other parts of the world.

Grohl today confirmed to NME that a second season of Sonic Highways would happen, hinting that the show could focus on bands internationally, most notably the UK, which Grohl said “would be shooting fish in a barrel. There’s just so fucking much here.”

Grohl explained that although he wonders about spending another year and a half of his life filming a documentary series rather than recording music, he enjoys the possibility of being able to do so. By the time we were finished with ‘Sonic Highways’ I was just fucking exhausted,” Grohl said. But it’s kind of a magical luxury of my life that I’m able to go around and interview people and learn about the history of all these awesome places so I wouldn’t just give it up that’s for sure.”

Season one of Sonic Highways also coincided with the release of the new Foo Fighters album, as the band recorded songs in each of the eight different American cities along their journey. But at no point did Grohl confirm the arrival of a new Foo Fighters record, nor did he hint at a start date for filming or if the second season would even return to HBO.
