One of the most talked about new drama series of 2014, HBO’s The Leftovers, will be entering its second season to some considerable alterations. Deadline reports that for the shows sophomore year they will be having a change in setting and dwindling down of the cast. In its first season the story centered on the Garvey family and their fictional town of Mapleton, New York and how they dealt with a cataclysmic, Rapture-like event. For the second season the Garvey family will return but in a new, yet to be confirmed location.

The members of the main cast that are returning are Justin Theroux, Amy Brenneman, Chris Zylka, Margaret Qualley, Carrie Coon and Christopher Eccleston. Everyone else is possible to return, such as Ann Dowd and Liv Tyler, but not in major roles.

The way the first season ended, there were many possible directions to take the series, considering that the season essentially worked through the entirety of the novel that it was based on. The world that has been set up in the first season is now open for exploration for new stories and surprises now that show creator Damon Lindeloff has free reign to build on the mythology along with the book’s author Tom Perrotta. It should be a very exciting season to look forward to.
