Gotham, Ep. 2.20, “Unleashed” is a breakthrough episode that reaches a season high

Gotham really heats up this week as Azrael is unleashed onto the City causing everyone within his purview to scramble to try to avoid or try to end his rampage. There is Professor Strange covering his tracks, Tabitha planning her departure, and Gordon trying to take down Azrael before he can do any more harm. It’s a race to beat the clock in this week’s action packed hour.

Gotham, Ep. 2.12, “Mr. Freeze” cometh to warm up next-level criminality

While “Mr. Freeze” takes a great deal to set up this new upcoming arc rather than thoughtfully explore the title character’s predicament, it still is able to quickly establish Mr. Freeze’s situation, present his motivation, and display the extent of his powers to a great degree.

What Hollywood Should Learn From Deadpool

Essentially, Fox has nothing to lose by playing it safe, but apparently they don’t have much to lose by backing the ugly underdog, either. The best case scenario? The improbable success of Deadpool gives Fox a mandate to make superhero media weirder, smarter, and more subversive. Worst case: we get another Avengers clone with more sex and blood. Both scenarios make Fox a boatload of box-office money, so why not get a little weird?

The X-Files, Ep. 10.04: “Home Again” is memorably terrifying

“Home Again” doesn’t exactly hit all the notes it’s aiming for, but it at least attempts to do two important things that The X-Files is capable of doing on a good day: 1) establish an emotional connection between the audience and the central characters and 2) scare the hell out of people.
